Grand Hotel Tritone

There’s so much to see in the world, we rarely return to the same hotel. So the fact we’ve been to the Grand Hotel Tritone twice, and would go time and again, says a lot.

The Grand Tritone is not posh; it feels like you’re stepping back in time to the slowed pace of another era, complete with hand painted tile and spectacular setting. Family run since 1957, the staff is incredibly kind and attentive. We were warmly welcomed by the restaurant manager telling us the first night, “if there’s something the children want that’s not on the menu, let us know, and we will make it.” Luckily, our kids fell in love what was on the menu (do have the lemon sorbet and do have it every night), so the kind offer was unnecessary.

Don’t worry, there’s also an elevator to the sea level beach club.

Sitting on its own, just outside Praiano, the hotel is perfectly located because it has direct, private access to the sea (after a long stairwell or tiny elevator ride down through the rocks), a welcome respite before or after a few days exploring Rome, 3 hours away. Plus, you’re just a quick water taxi ride away from Positano, boat hire from Capri, and taxi or drive to beautiful Ravello. You can easily check out the rest of the Amalfi coast by day and return to your secluded little paradise each evening.

The hotel beach club is so lovely, thought, you may struggle to leave your chaise. We spent days jumping into the sea, floating, relaxing, and exploring the adjacent beach. It was truly heaven on earth! Since it’s old school (no zero entry pool), best suited to couples or families with non-mobile babies/toddlers or strong swimmers.

Travel Tips: The Grand Tritone has a few quad rooms, perfect for families, since most European hotels require two rooms for 4+. Book early, especially if traveling July or August. With kids, pack granola bars, or, if flying into Naples, have your driver watch luggage while you grab snacks at the airport mini.

The hotel offers amazing buffet breakfast spread, lunch in the early afternoon and fabulous dinner but, typical of Europe, it starts on the late side. After swimming all day, kids needed a little something in between meals to avoid meltdowns. For parents, there’s not much better than sunset from the upstairs deck with an Aperol Spritz. You’ll love it!
