Trips

Each trip starts with a timeframe or place in mind. Below are destinations we’ve explored. They include what we think is the minimum time to spend there, but of course, more time can be spent for a more in-depth experience.

We’ve also created a travel fitness scale (F-score) so you can quickly find the right trip for your family. While each location can be more or less intense based on where you stay and what you do, the scale allows you to generally predict each location’s preparation requirements and trip experience. Remember, we’re West Coast based, so may vary some if you’re East Coast or not from the US. Some scores have a “+”; these are often a little harder to get to or have fewer sites/activities for kids. Itineraries include more detail on what to expect from each destination.

 

F1: Beginner -No passport. No additional shots. Short flight(s), minimal time change, familiar food, accessibility of kid gear/activity, easy on-ground transport.  Little advanced planning required, unless traveling during peak times. 

F2: Skilled -Passport required. No shots. Extended travel time, language barrier, food differences.

F3: Committed – Passport required. Shots or medication recommended. Language barrier, food differences, but easy once you’re there.  

F4: Advanced – Passport required and often VISA. Shots or medication recommended. Language barrier, significant dietary differences, travel between destinations long or rigorous, carseats often unavailable. Medical care less accessible.

F5: Expert -Passport required and often VISA. Language barrier, dietary differences. Adventurous, off the beaten path, limited access to wifi, requires special gear, challenging conditions require physical/emotional prep.

In addition to determining your travel fitness score, consider where you are on the tourist-traveler continuum. With that, you’re ready to create your vacation equation.
